Internship experience and suggestions

A memorable journey

My first internship was as an intern journalist at the Yangtze River Daily in Wuhan, China, from July 2020 to the present. Yangtze River Daily is an organ of the Wuhan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) of the People's Republic of China, founded on May 23, 1949, and published and distributed by Yangtze River Daily Newspaper Group. The main readers are mainly enterprises, government agencies, schools and intellectuals, and the domestic unified publication number is CN42-0002. the main section of my internship is to manage and solve the problems raised by citizens on the Wuhan city message board, and to select representative issues for interviews and reports. During my internship, I participated in more than 50 news reports and write-ups, and attended four press conferences of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee, and had the honor to ask questions on the spot. During this time, I gained very many experiences and lessons. During my internship, I had to make sure that I arrived at the office on time every morning, and I tried to overcome my usual irregular sleep to get used to a healthy and regular biological clock for myself during this period. During the work period, I often did not understand the questions asked by some citizens, thinking that their questions were unnecessary or a trivial matter, so at first I did not deal with these questions seriously and was criticized and educated by the leaders. The leader told me that every people's problem is worth to be solved seriously, if small things are not solved well, it will eventually become a big mistake, at that time, the consequences will be unmanageable. I understood what the leader meant, and there is an old Chinese saying: A thousand miles of dike is collapsed in an anthill. Since then, every matter raised by the public, I will personally call to ask, and reported to the relevant departments to solve or provide effective advice, special things, I will do the relevant detailed reports and interviews. Although it was very tiring, during this period I experienced the joy and sense of accomplishment that comes from serving the people. Secondly, it is how to plan my work in a more organized way. I used to think one step at a time, so I would often come up with a lot of new ideas from time to time. Some novel ideas are recognized by colleagues and leaders in the company, but some ideas are also rejected by leaders. Sometimes this causes me trouble because I become frustrated when people do not approve of my ideas. But my colleagues have been very good at opening up to me. The work is not like school where new ideas can be presented and discussed directly to the teacher in the classroom. Bosses and leaders do look at actual results and benefits, so when you have a new idea, you need to do the research, collect the idea together, and find out what the problem is so that you can be more effective in your journalism. I can't go to the site and only think of the questions I need to ask, it's not conducive to writing my press releases and the issues I hear about are not what the people care about. I think this is a very good suggestion, and it helps me to do my news interviews more clearly and easily, which is a very big gain for me.

Internship Objectives

The goal of the internship is to gain practical experience in the social world. As I am about to leave school, I am not able to integrate into Chinese society quickly, so through the internship, I can understand the work pattern and environment, which will help me to integrate into society seamlessly in the future. Secondly, it will strengthen my personal skills. Since my major studies in college were in media and journalism, I was able to combine my practical and professional knowledge at Yangtze River Daily News. I hope I can integrate well into the life of a journalist during this period. Lastly, I hope to learn new things at Yangtze River Daily News, such as how to interview, how to use the equipment needed for interviewing, such as cameras, microphones... Also, as a journalist, I need to learn how to ask the right questions and how to raise the issues that people care about. Asking questions is an art, and it is important for me to learn how to ask good questions, so I need to learn more about the issues that are important to the public during my internship.

My Future Hope

I hope I can stay at Yangtze Daily in the future. Firstly, I feel that the internship here is the right match for my major. It has always been my dream to be a media person, and I can realize it very well in Yangtze River Daily. Secondly, the Yangtze River Daily Group, as an organ of the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee, is closely linked to livelihood issues, and I can get a lot of opportunities in it to bring a part of myself to my home city. I can propose some good pilot projects about city construction here, and I can also solve some problems for the people. The selflessness and dedication of the people in this company is what attracted me most. Finally, after almost a year of internship, I have developed a deep friendship with my colleagues in my department. I don't want to leave them and I feel comfortable and at ease with them every day, which is beneficial to the smooth running of my work.
